This is a blend of rums produced by Gray’s Distillery in Mauritius and Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados. No aged statement but it is tropically matured in ex-Cognac and ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 43% ABV. Let's dive in.
Rich maple, apricot, honey, tobacco and a bit of sweetness.
Sweet with a touch of funk and brown sugar, there’s a kiss of oak and candied ginger. Light pepper and clove, the spice offsets the maple sweetness from earlier in the palate. Moderate viscosity, the barrel is pulling hard work here to bring forward some well structured tannin and a pleasant balance.
Moderate finish, it doesn’t hold for long, but it’s pleasant enough. Maple, ginger, a touch of pepper and a kiss of oak to keep things interesting.
Leaning much more on the casking for this release, Equiano’s cognac and bourbon barrel aged rum is much sweeter, albeit with a big boost to complexity as well.
