  • Intro:

Distilled by Foursquare in Barbados, this is the 2022 release of their Exceptional Cask Selection series, bearing mark XXI. Distilled in 2010, aged in ex-bourbon and carrying an age statement of 12 years, this should be quite a rum. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Bold, rich and boozy on the nose. At 60% ABV, there's tons of character here, full of maple, honey, rich cherries, a touch of rubbery funk and tree sap.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate. It's layered, complex, dense and full of character. Sweet and bourbon-y at first, there's caramel, vanilla, honey, pecans, brown sugar and a touch of pineapple and tobacco.

  • Finish:

Long finish, maple driven once more. Light touch of funk and bitter oak, plenty of caramel candies, confectioners sugar, some nutty funk and a sweet, syrupy finish.

  • Overall:

Overall, Foursquare earns its distinction with releases such as these. While not wild, abrasive or entirely avant garde, their rum is solid, dependable, always a treat to drink and it's a release that you can always count on to have a familiar profile. Great stuff.
