Excerpt: Definitely Cuban-ish, but a lot more complex than I was expecting. Just a tad too pricey for me as this style isn’t usually my cup of tea, but for a Cuban rum lover this can easily hit the spot.
Excerpt: The Havana Club Selección de Maestros really is a fine rum. It is a little spicier than most well aged rums in the market, but the spiciness (for me) works very well within the context of the overall flavour profile. The spirit is an excellent sipper, and if you wish to explore the cocktail rum just a little bit, you will find the spiciness of this Cuban spirit works wonders in that realm as well. Not quite up to the standard of the old Havana Club Barrel Proof, but great nonetheless.
Excerpt: The rum is ideal for someone who enjoys a less sweet possibly more oaked profile. Having said that I am fond of the Demerara and Bajan style yet I am finding this Cuban expression to be very enjoyable.
Excerpt: Overall, not bad but generally thin and a bit artificial. This would be a fine mixer, and I bet it would stand up well to balance a big funky rum in a cocktail, maybe.

House Review
Intro:
"A relaunch of Havana Clubs Cuban Barrel Proof edition, Seleccin de Maestros has benefited from an eye-catching packaging upgrade and is bottled at 45% for extra oomph. The Gold Medal-winning liquid inside Havana Club Seleccin de Maestros remains the same as for the old Cuban Barrel Proof - as the name suggests, the casks have been hand-picked by the maestros roneros from the companys finest aged stocks. The rums selected by the maestros roneros are finished in special casks chosen for their aromatic properties before being bottled at a higher strength than the standard range for a more intense, immediate flavour on the palate." - The Whiskey Exchange
Thin on the palate but no heat. Mild bitterness. Toffee, more nutty character along with light pepper and mango.
Finish:
Short, hot but sweet. Lots of amaretto, with some bitter plastic, light ash and toffee.
Overall:
Overall, not bad but generally thin and a bit artificial. This would be a fine mixer, and I bet it would stand up well to balance a big funky rum in a cocktail, maybe.
