  • Intro:

This is a rum distilled in Fiji in 2014 and matured mostly in the tropics. Matured for 2 years in the tropics, and one year in Europe. I really like Fijian rum, as evidenced by XXX/Four, so I'm looking forward to this as well. Let's dive in.

  • Nose:

Sweet and fruity, with some funk in the back. Lots going on here, so delightful and inviting. Brown sugar, mango and papaya, light funk and some sweet toffee. A little bit of oak, a hint of rising bread. Funk grows with time but the sweetness is what hooks you first.

  • Taste:

Rich on the palate, really coats well. Sweet oak, a hint of toffee and some molasses. Funk sweeps in with a sweet, fruity quality. There’s no death and misery here, just bright esters and fruit. Melon, some pepper. Complexity is really quite nice.

  • Finish:

Long, sweet and fruity. A hair less complex than the palate but it’s pleasant and lingers well. The heat grows a hair, a little more than I’d expect for 48% but that’s just fine.

  • Overall:

Overall this is pretty enjoyable, and totally different from XXX/Four, which is nice. Lots going on, this is a competent bottling I’m really enjoying.

  • Score:

    7
