- Excerpt: I honestly don’t know what to make of a rum this different. It provides everything I’ve ever wanted as an answer to tame rum makers who regularly regurgitate unadventurous rums that differ only in minute ways from previous iterations and famed older blends. This one in contrast is startlingly original, seemingly cut from new cloth — it’s massive, it’s feral, it makes no apologies for what it is and sports a simply ginormous range of flavours. It cannot be ignored just because it’s teetering on the wrong side of batsh*t crazy (which I contend it does).

- Excerpt: Rich, fruity and very flavourful a really great rum. Once you get past the initial nose and sip, the vinegar notes do meld together with the other flavours to give a funky but balanced Jamaican rum. It’s not quite as perfect as my favourite Jamaican the Duncan Taylor 15 Year Old Long Pond from 2016 but it’s not far off that standard. Great juice.

Intro:
This was distilled in 2006 by the now affected Long POnd Distillery. They lost some barrels in a blaze but otherwise seem fine and should be back to us in a decade or two. I have all four releases in the series to review, and this is day two, so lets keep the party going.

Nose:
Sweet plantain, molasses and mango. Honey, funky melon and banana. Tar, almond liqueur and a funky rotting papaya note.

Taste:
Sweet and rich, loaded with melon and banana. It isnt long before the sweet fruit notes give way to tar, rotting fruits and a light plastic note. It doesnt last forever though, with rich succulent brown sugar, molasses and almond and peach notes flooding back. Its certainly a potent dram, but one loaded with complexity.

Finish:
Long, but there is definitely some heat here. The funk is really the star of the show here, digging its hooks into your sinuses and throat alike. Tobacco, amaretto, molasses and melon sweetness.
