  • Excerpt: I’m not a huge white rum lover but this is as good as I have had. It will give a massive kick to tiki style cocktails, where it is very often used. W&N Overproof is very popular and highly regarded amongst bartenders and mixologists. Rightly so as well.

  • Excerpt: Overproof spirits are extremely difficult to score. You cannot judge them in the same way that you judge a regular proof spirit. Simply put, the Wray and Nephew Overproof White Rum is not intended to be sipped neat or even over ice. Even in the cocktail format, it must be mixed in a judicious manner. However, when you get it just right, the results are wonderful.

Raided Score is a conversion from an external site's score, to our in house uniform scoring system. Please see the FAQ for more.

  • Intro:

This is supposedly the best selling rum in Jamaica, garnering over 90% of domestic sales. That said, this is an unaged white rum, bottled at an eye watering 63% ABV. Priced firmly in the "what a steal" category, this makes a compelling addition to go alongside other unaged, overproofed rums in the sector.

  • Nose:

Lightly funky, sugar cane. Vanilla icing. Rich sweetness, nice banana and some other fruits, mild funk.

  • Taste:

Vanilla cream, mild funk. Some heat, but really mild for the proof. Rotting bananas. Some burning rubber. Sweet icing.

  • Finish:

Medium, hot, rotting fruits, some rubber, sweet confectioners sugar.

  • Overall:

This was actually tolerable neat and also makes a darn good cocktail.

  • Score:

    5
